August 24, 2012: Visiting Friends in Seattle

Hi, Folks –

I was talking with a friend recently who commented that it had been a while since he’s seen a blog post from me.  True enough!  I’ve been pretty busy with my house husband/chief support staff duties…but now it’s time to get caught up.

On the last weekend in August, we went up to Seattle to visit old friends Beratta Gomillion and Melody Platt.  They moved to Seattle 16 years ago, and this is the first time we’ve seen them since.  Our friendship with Beratta and Melody is one of those that time does not diminish even though distance has kept us from seeing each other.  We just picked up where we left off, and our weekend with them just deepened it.  Living in Seattle has been a great move for them.

They were the most gracious of hosts, and took us all around the city while our pups hung out with theirs at the house.  By the end of the weekend, all were good friends.

The first place they took us was to see the Troll under the Fremont bridge.  Fremont is an artsy neighborhood north of City Center.  The troll has been living under the bridge since it was built in the 1930s.

Here’s one of Beratta, Callie, and Melody.  Note the VW Beetle under the Troll’s claw!

From Fremont, we went in to City Center, site of the 1962 World’s Fair and the Space Needle.

Here’s a shot of an amazing mirrored building that houses a museum dedicated to all sorts of technology:

In one of the pavilions at City Center there was a large celebration of Tibetan culture, where Tibetan monks performed sub-bass chanting and created a lovely sand mandala…

Here’s a shot that I took of Callie, Beratta, and Melody there:

And one Beratta took of me and Callie (with background removed by Photoshop).  I love the backlighting.  Callie hates any picture of herself, but she was a good sport 🙂

Here’s another of Callie and me at a fountain, taken by Beratta…

From City Center, we went down to Pike Place Market, famous for its fresh flowers, vegetables, and seafood.  Here are a few shots…
