We Be Sailors!

Okay, I usually don’t fill my posts with cute family shots, but today I’m gonna make an exception.  Yesterday (Friday), the grandkid’s day care facility was closed for staff in-service, so it afforded an opportunity for a “boy’s day out”.

I drove up to Boston Harbor, north of Olympia, the day  before and rented a row boat.  Then I sprung the surprise on them when we got there yesterday.  Rowing on the Puget Sound was a first for all of us.

“Opa” is now “Row-pa”.  We spent about 3 hours on the water, with a picnic lunch of PB & Js on a beach at noon.  Now, “We be sailors!”

Aiden (age 5) is on the left; Isaac (age 3 1/2) is on the right…

We made up sea chanties and sang as we glided along:

“Row, row, row your boat, down the Puget Sound, merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily, sailing all around!”

On the beach for lunch…

Headed back to port, Isaac engrossed in the water…

I think he likes it…

But the sun and the excitement began to take its toll…

We made it back to the marina, found our sea legs again, and loaded in to the truck for the short trip home.  Both boys were asleep in their car seats almost before we got out of the parking lot.  And Row-pa was ready for a nap when he got home.
